ABSENCE: Please notify the school by e-mail (by the previous day) or phone (at the school: 215-429-6786 on Wednesday or Thursday) regarding any absent students. Students will be responsible for finding out what occurred in class on the days they were absent and for completing and turning in all work due. See CORDIS ACADEMIC GUIDELINES for further information.
ACCIDENT/ILLNESS: If your child becomes ill or injured while at school, you will be contacted immediately. If the parents cannot be reached, the next designated person will be contacted. In case of extreme emergency in which the school is unable to contact the parents, emergency contact, or family physician, a doctor or hospital of the school’s choosing will be contacted and asked to administer emergency aid to the child. Because of the new Privacy Act, The Master’s Academy will no longer be able to administer over the counter medication or prescription medication to students.
ARRIVAL: Temporary parking is available in front of and near our address, 258 Main Street, and also on side streets. Students are to enter the building from the Main Street entrance no earlier than 8:40 a.m. for The Master’s Academy classes and 7:40 a.m. for Cordis classes. (If students arrive before 8:40 a.m. or 7:40 a.m., they will be asked to wait in the foyer area.) Please encourage your students to go directly to their classrooms, making last minute trips to the bathroom on their way if needed, so that classes can begin promptly.
BEHAVIOR and DISCIPLINE: Discipline is properly defined as control. In the well-disciplined classroom, both the teacher and the students are exercising control, first of all, over themselves. A growing Christian child senses the responsibility to control himself as a mandate from God.
Corrections are necessary when this ideal discipline breaks down. Any breakdown in the self-control of individuals, or of the entire group, naturally blocks the learning process. Discipline enters the picture only when a consistent breakdown of self-control occurs. The responsibilities of students attending The Master’s Academy and Cordis Academy are very simple and include the following:
-
respect for the teachers
--no talking back
--first time obedience
--no talking while the teacher is talking
--no skipping classes
-
respect for one another
--no harming of another student either verbally or physically
--no disruptions in class while others are trying to learn
--no wearing of inappropriate clothing so as not to offend other students
-
respect for the building
--no eating or drinking is allowed outside the lunch room area except on Cordis mornings.
Discipline procedures will include the following:
- Two corrections of a student in a day will earn the student a discipline slip, which must be taken home and signed by both parents. The discipline slip must be returned to the director's tray the following week.
- Two discipline slips sent home will require a meeting with a parent, child, and director.
- Two conferences will result in the child being suspended from classes for a week.
- After this point, if any further discipline is required, the student will be removed from the program and the parents will remain responsible for student’s tuition for the rest of the year.
- Any child caught destroying school facility will be suspended from classes for two weeks, and will be responsible for paying for repair of the damage.
- No child or youth is to be left unsupervised at any time either in the school building.
- Anything that promotes moral corruption or compromises the safety and well-being of the students, staff and faculty in the judgment of The Master's Academy of Fine Arts will be grounds for immediate dismissal with the parents being responsible for the remainder of the tuition.
BIBLICAL STANDARDS: All classes will be taught from a Biblical world-view. The importance of this cannot be overstated as we try to reclaim, for the Lord, neglected areas of learning. In addition, because of our aesthetic view of who God is and the excellence that is reflected in His character, all classes must be taught in such a way as to raise the level and standard of the arts in the eyes of the students.

Director has the right to confiscate item indefinitely.
Exception: Board games, e.g. Chess, to be played during lunch and Study Hall.
LEARNING DIFFERENCES: Inherent in any creative program will be many children with learning differences. This is the beauty of a program like MAFA because students who have difficulty in learning subject matter in the traditional manner, absolutely blossom when put into a fast-paced hands-on environment.

MASTER’S PROJECT: Because of our commitment to excellence through “raising the bar” at The Master’s Academy, we are continuing our optional Master’s Projects Program. This program gives all students 13 years and older a chance to concentrate on and develop one area of interest or exploration. Each student will be asked to select one area of study, e.g. music, art, drama, and history, etc. choosing a subject or topic in that area related to the Romantic Period (1830-1900). This project will be discussed and developed under the guidance of an assigned instructor/mentor and the director at The Master’s Academy, however, all projects should be student motivated/initiated and parent supervised. A special Master’s Project meeting will be held on Thursday,
September 11, 2008 for all families interested in participating.
SNACKS: Students are welcome to bring water bottles to MAFA/Cordis. No other beverage will be allowed outside of the lunch period. Students are welcome to bring a healthy snack to eat during the Cordis morning. Junk food is discouraged. Green Group students will have a planned snack during the morning. Parents will be asked to sign-up for snacks/drinks at parent orientation.
SPECIAL NEEDS: It is the sincere desire of The Master's Academy and Cordis Academy staff that all students receive the best instruction possible while in attendance of all classes. If you are aware of any special needs that your child or children have, please speak with the Director prior to the start of school or when you become aware of any information that will enable the instructors to enhance the learning experience for all involved.
STUDENT AND STAFF RELATIONS: All staff members should serve as adult role models for their students as outlined in Titus 2:7-8. Relationships between staff members and students are to be friendly and courteous, not familial and intimate. Staff members are to be addressed as Mr. or Ms./Miss/Mrs. by all students.
VISITORS: Parents are welcome to observe the class that their student is taking. Please notify the director when you would like to attend. However, we do ask that parents remain observers and not participants in the class, e.g. answering for the student or assisting student with an assignment or art project, etc. Friends and family are also welcome on a one-time basis with an appointment.
The Master's Academy of Fine Arts of Quakertown, Inc. admits students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at school. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national, and ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, scholarship and loan programs, and athletic and other school administered programs.
